When you arrive Kansai International Airport
In the Kansai International Airport (KIX), the international arrival gates are located on the first floor of the airport building (link to the airport Web page ).
When you get through the customs, you will be on the first floor of the building, and to reach the JR (Japan Railways) train station, you should go up to the second floor.
The escalator can handle the luggage-carrying carts. There will always be an assistant who can help you, so just follow her advice to carry your carts up to the second floor. You can then go out of the building, going through the passage way to the
(Japan Railways) station building. 1
Buy ticket
You can go to the ticket counter (fairly conspicuous), and buy for the limited (super) express “Haruka”, for Kyoto.The fare is 3,290 (approx. US$30) per person/one way. (Non reserved seats are some 2 dollars cheaper.) Here is the picture of the entrance of the station. When you get through the automatic gate (wide enough to accomodate your big suitcase), be sure to insert only the ticket for the "base fare" , if you have a separate ticket for a reserved seat. If you have only one ticket, fine, put it through the slit, and in any event, do NOT forget to pick up your ticket at the end of the rail. 2 There is an elevator or an escalator to let you go to the platform.
If you want buy the ticket with vending machine;
Pressing the English mark on the display will give you all instructions in English. 3 Let me show you a sequence of buying a ticket to Kyoto. Btw Kyoto is usually the final destination, so you need not worry when to get off.- 1st step:
- Choose your destination. Be sure to choose to buy both "base fare" and "reservation ticket for seat".
- 2nd step:
- Make your choice from the options of trains shown.
- 3nd step:
- Reservation made.
Train “Haruka”
This is "Haruka ". If you bought a reserved seat, it will tell you the car number and the seat number. The car number is shown as this . Haruka leaves the airport in every 30 minutes and takes 75 minutes to get to Kyoto. It used to be that all seats (canonically non-smoking) were reserved, but now there are some non-reserved seat cars. In the morning/evening, people often just reserve seats for a specific train, but jump on to an earlier train available. The net result is that you'll often find many trains are fully booked, but there are just quite a few open seats. So if you find Haruka is booked, buy your ticket anyway, and try to get an earliest possible train possible where you can find open seats in the non-reserved cars. It's not worth waiting for much later train grabbing 120% legitimate ticket in your hand while lots of other people just beat the system this way.Hotel EL INN KYOTO
When you arrive at the Kyoto station, go straight to Hachijo exit. It is not lively in comparison with the central exit (see below).
